PRGII community engagement in a Liberian town

Sustainability & local impact

Operating in Liberia means being accountable to Liberians.

Our licence to operate is granted by regulators and renewed by communities. PRGII treats environmental performance, local content and safety as operating requirements, not corporate messaging.

Environmental stewardship

Baseline studies, EPA-aligned impact management, water and dust control, and rehabilitation funded as part of each project budget rather than deferred to closure.

Community partnership

Host-community agreements negotiated before mobilisation, with development funds, grievance mechanisms and published commitments reviewed annually.

Skills and employment

Priority hiring from host counties, apprenticeship pipelines in trades and heavy equipment, and management development for Liberian supervisors.

Health, safety and integrity

One HSE standard across all divisions, mandatory incident reporting, and an anti-bribery policy that applies to employees, agents and subcontractors alike.

Local content in practice

Local content fails when it is treated as a quota. We plan it as a supply-chain problem: identify which scopes Liberian firms and workers can hold today, which need training or equipment support, and which must be imported for now with a defined handover path.

That plan is written into project budgets and programme schedules, tracked monthly, and reported to host communities in language and forums they actually use.

  • Pre-qualification and mentoring for Liberian subcontractors
  • Payment terms designed so small suppliers can survive the cycle
  • Apprenticeships tied to real vacancies, not certificates alone
  • Scholarships and school infrastructure in host communities
